We are looking forward to celebrating our Mother Earth this Saturday with the City of Long Beach, NY at their Earth Day Celebration & Reusable Bag Give-a-Way event at Kennedy Plaza. This Saturday, April 22 from 10:00 am - 2:00pm, LI Greenmarket will be set up on the West side of the Fountain with a few the City Market's Vendor Faves for all visitors. Come and see Butterscotch Handcrafted, Horman's Best Pickles, Knots of this World.
Also, you can learn about two new local Food programs:
1) The new Operation Community Compost program that the local Girl Scout Troop 2260 is helping to run for the Market this Summer season. These motivated and Earth-loving Girl Scouts will teach you about composting, collect any compost you may want to bring and dispose of (we bring it to one of the local school's gardens!), and offer you coffee grounds for your own home composting efforts, donated by the local Gentle Brew Cafe.
2) The Sprout Project will have student representatives from the Nike work-based learning center to talk about their school sprout-growing business, which is rooted with good intention and healthy vibes. Hear how their positive verbal messages help their sprout plants grow stronger. Donate to their Greenhouse Vision Fund, so they want can expand their local business enterprise and entrepreneurial goals.
Also: be sure to bring your reusable bags! The new City Bag Ordinance comes into effect this Day. And if you do not have a reusable Bag, you will be able to pick one up from the Event!
