LI Greenmarket wants to help get 1 million plastic bags off the street: Crowdrise Campaign
March 20, 2017
One of my favorite things to see at Farmers' Markets, as silly as it may sound, is to observe all the varieties of reusable bags that our customers bring and fill up at Market. So many bags are bright colored with a slue of different patterns and designs, and it's fulfilling to see them slung over the shoulder of a customer, brimming with large stalks of Swiss chard, or bulging with onions or tomatoes. I'm not exactly sure why I love it so much; the reason could be that it reminds me more of a provincial life- a simpler, cleaner life. Or maybe for the most obvious reason: that reusable bag is helping to keep less plastic bag use in circulation and it reflects the responsible consciousness of our community members.
At LI Greenmarket, we support the upcoming Bag Ordinance that will be coming into place this Earth Day, Saturday, April 22nd. And in the efforts to continue my personal satisfaction of seeing an increase in reusable bags at our Long Beach Farmers' Market (among many other more credible reasons), we are teaming up with the All Our Energy group in a Crowdrise crowdfunding campaign to purchase reusable bags to distribute throughout the Long Beach community at various neighborhood centers and pick-up points.
Any amount that you can spare helps us get closer to our goal of getting 1 million plastic bags off the streets. Please visit our campaign, give what you can to help, be an environmental steward, and share with a friend. And then, over the Farmers’ Market season, come and visit the managers tent and show us YOUR reusable bag filled with yummy market treats!

Thanks for your support!
